Funeral Flowers for Glasgow Crematorium
High above the city among the Victorian monuments of the Western Necropolis, Glasgow Crematorium has stood since 1895, which makes it the oldest crematorium in Scotland and the setting for funerals in the north of the city for well over a century.
Locals often call it the Maryhill crematorium, or the Western Necropolis, to keep it distinct from the council-run venues at Linn and Daldowie; families come here from Maryhill, Summerston and Possilpark, and from Milngavie and Bearsden beyond.
Reaching it means turning off Tresta Road in Maryhill, and the practical notes below explain how funeral flowers are ordered and delivered for a service on the site.
Flower Policy
Anything from a single hand-tied sheaf to a full coffin spray, a wreath, a posy or floral lettering can be made and delivered for a service here, with only outsized or elaborate pieces needing the funeral director to sound out the venue first.
The tribute will be waiting before the funeral begins, florists fix their arrival with the staff or the funeral director, and at the close of the service the flowers are placed where mourners can view them together; whether they are then carried home, left a while, or donated is a choice to share with the funeral director ahead of time.
Delivery Guidance
Because Glasgow has several crematoria, write the destination in full on the order, Glasgow Crematorium, Western Necropolis, Tresta Road, Maryhill, along with the name of the person being remembered, written out in full, and the day and hour of the funeral; naming the Necropolis prevents any mix-up with Linn or Daldowie.
Maryhill, Bearsden and Milngavie florists deliver to the site regularly, as do shops in the city centre.
Or let the funeral home take charge: a tribute dropped there in advance comes out with the coffin on the day.

Frequently asked questions
Is Glasgow Crematorium the same as Linn or Daldowie?
No, this is the historic venue inside the Western Necropolis at Maryhill, in the north of the city, whereas Linn and Daldowie are the council's crematoria to the south and east.
How old is Glasgow Crematorium?
Open since 1895, it is Scotland's oldest crematorium and among the oldest anywhere in Britain.
When must flowers arrive for a service there?
Before it starts, with margin to spare. The florist agrees the practicalities with the venue; what the family supplies is a correctly detailed order.
What happens to flowers once a service ends?
They are put out for family and friends to view on leaving, then either kept, left at the venue for a spell, or donated as the family prefers.
